Harmonious interplay between fruit, spice and earth flavors mark this Panorama staff favorite from a rare native grape variety that was identified, rescued from near extinction, resurrected and revitalized (largely by Ronchi di Cialla) in the 1970s after a history documented as far back as the 13th century. Finding emerging popularity and revealing amazing layers of flavor in a high-acidity, medium-bodied bottling of just 12.5% alcohol this newly hip, cool local Northern Italian grape (translated meaning= 'buckshot' for its tiny, dark-skinned grapes) yields just 665 cases--even from this arguably most prestigious of its producers. Aromatically evocative blueberry, boysenberry, lavender, anise, thyme, nutmeg, cocoa powder, Autumn leaf and ripe mission fig are all woven seamlessly together on the palate, with a lingering hint of buttered almond on the aftertaste.
